Composite Gate Maintenance
A wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush now and then, a drop of oil on the hinges and lock, and on electric gates the yearly service. No painting, staining or sealing.
A short list, a few times a year, and the yearly service if it's electric.
Free, no obligation. One local installer prices it, not five.

See a composite gate on your own opening
Upload a photo of the side passage, garden entrance or driveway, pick the gate, the boards and the frame, and see it in about a minute. Your request goes to one gate installer who covers your county.
Step 1 of 3

Step 2 of 3
Drawing your gate. This takes 20 to 50 seconds.
Your request is already through, so you can close this page if you need to.
That's an AI preview, not a drawing to build from. The installer measures the opening before pricing it.
We couldn't do this one. Some photos don't work: a clearer, wider shot in daylight usually does.
Your request is in: you'll still get a call with a price.

The whole maintenance list
- Wash the boards with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Rinse. A pressure washer held close can mark the surface.
- Oil the hinges and the lock a couple of times a year.
- Look at the frame for loose screws and the gate dropping on its hinges.
- Keep the bottom clear of soil and leaves so it doesn't sit wet or drag.
- Electric gates: a yearly service, with the safety devices and closing forces tested and logged.
Marks and scuffs on composite boards often come off with a gentle wash; deep scratches can't be sanded out like timber. Ask the maker what their guarantee says about cleaning products.

Questions
Questions we get asked
How do you clean a composite gate?
Warm soapy water and a soft brush, then a rinse. Avoid a pressure washer held close and harsh solvents.
Do composite gates need painting?
No. The colour is in the boards; there's no painting, staining or sealing.
Do composite gates fade?
Composite boards are made to hold their colour, but every material weathers a little in full sun. Darker boards show heat and fading more than lighter ones; ask what the maker's guarantee covers.
How often should an electric gate be serviced?
Once a year: €100–€400, with the safety devices tested.
