Step 2 of 3
Drawing your gate. This takes 20 to 50 seconds.
Your request is already through, so you can close this page if you need to.
That's an AI preview, not a drawing to build from. The installer measures the opening before pricing it.
We couldn't do this one. Some photos don't work: a clearer, wider shot in daylight usually does.
Your request is in: you'll still get a call with a price.

Composite, timber or metal?
Is composite better than timber for a gate?
Composite needs the least upkeep: no painting or staining, and the aluminium frame doesn't rust. Timber is cheaper to buy but needs treating every year or two. Steel is strongest but rusts where the coating is broken.
| Composite | Timber | Steel or iron | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upkeep | A wash now and then | Stain or oil every 1–2 years | Touch up the coating |
| Rot and rust | Boards don't rot; aluminium frames don't rust | Rots if left wet | Rusts where the coating breaks |
| Privacy | Solid boards, full privacy | Close-boarded, full privacy | Usually open bars |
| Weight and wind | Solid boards catch the wind | Heavy when solid | Heavy, open to the wind |
| Looks | Wood look, modern lines | Traditional | Bars, scrolls, arched tops |

Questions
Questions we get asked
How much do composite gates cost in Ireland?
A composite side gate costs €400–€500 as a kit you fit yourself, or €1,350–€1,550 made to measure. A composite driveway pair is €600–€950 for the gate alone, and an electric swing gate, supplied and fitted, €2,500–€3,500.
What is a composite gate?
A composite gate has a frame, usually aluminium or galvanised steel, filled with composite boards: a wood-plastic mix that looks like timber but isn't painted or stained, and doesn't rot or splinter.
Composite, timber or metal?
Composite needs the least upkeep: no painting or staining, and the aluminium frame doesn't rust. Timber is cheaper to buy but needs treating every year or two. Steel is strongest but rusts where the coating is broken.
Do I need planning permission for a composite gate?
Usually not. Gates up to 2 metres high at a house are exempted development under Class 5 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001. A fence beside it in front of the house is limited to 1.2 metres, and a new or wider entrance onto a public road needs permission.
How long does it take?
A kit or a stock-size gate can go up in a day once the posts or piers are sound. A made-to-measure gate is built to your opening first. New piers, a track or a cable run add days for the concrete to set.
Can a composite gate be electric?
Yes. A composite pair or a sliding gate can take a motor: €1,200–€3,500+ on a gate you have, or €2,500–€3,500 for electric swing gates supplied and fitted. Solid boards catch the wind, so the motor has to be sized for it.
Who comes out?
One gate installer who covers your county. Your number isn't sent to a list. They ring you, measure the opening and give you a fixed price. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
Do composite gates fade?
Composite boards are made to hold their colour, but every material weathers a little in full sun. Darker boards show heat and fading more than lighter ones; ask what the maker's guarantee covers.
What happens to my photo?
Your photo and the AI preview go with your request to the one installer, so they can see the opening before they ring. They're not used for anything else or shown anywhere.
